due to having an online presence, I am constantly thinking about the ways my personal style could be perceived.

the way you dress says a lot about you, from your favorite color and gender expression, down to your socioeconomic status and political beliefs, if you know what to look out for.

the term “personal style,” virtually synonymous with the term “personal brand,” has become quite a buzzword in the online fashion world, notably due to an increase in buzzfeed-esque articles and quizzes to help you find your own personal style.

some argue that the concept is paradoxical, as we chase after the novelty of being different, only to bump into the inevitable mainstream, while others label it unharmful: “personal style is about what makes you confident and comfortable - wear whatever makes you feel good” (regulargal, 2025).

The thing about personal style on the internet, though, is that it encompasses more than just the way you dress. Trying to be different by dressing the same isn’t new, it’s the unprecedented micro-individuality that’s turning heads.
